Leave your comment here with a book recommendation for me to enter your chance to win a copy of...Bittersweet, Thoughts on Change, Grace, and Learning the Hard Way by Shauna Niequist. It was one of my very favorite reads of the past year. Here are a few quotes to give you a idea of just how good this book is:

“Use what you have, use what the world gives you. Use the first day of fall: bright flame before winter's deadness; harvest; orange, gold, amber; cool nights and the smell of fire. Our tree-lined streets are set ablaze, our kitchens filled with the smells of nostalgia: apples bubbling into sauce, roasting squash, cinnamon, nutmeg, cider, warmth itself. The leaves as they spark into wild color just before they die are the world's oldest performance art, and everything we see is celebrating one last violently hued hurrah before the black and white silence of winter.”

“When things fall apart, the broken pieces allow all sorts of things to enter, and one of them is the presence of God.”
“I believe that suffering is part of the narrative, and that nothing really good gets built when everything's easy. I believe that loss and emptiness and confusion often give way to new fullness and wisdom."

“We sometimes choose the most locked up, dark versions of the story, but what a good friend does is turn on the lights, open the window, and remind us that there are a whole lot of ways to tell the same story.”

"..sometimes the happiest ending isn't the one you keep longing for, but something you absolutely cannot see from where you are.”

Side Note: Pintrest is my favorite way to catalog and keep track of books these days.

Also, if you haven't already you have until to tomorrow evening to sign up for these fun little happy-birthday-to-me giveaways.

Winner of the book to be announced on Friday, October 21st.

Happy Belated Birthday, Sweet Chelle. Hoping you had the best day ever!!! Have you read The Resolution for Women yet? I am currently reading it and highly recommend it. I am currently re-reading (over and over) the chapters about dispensing grace because they are speaking to my heart. Blessings to you, dear one.

        Happy 30th, Chelle!!
Couldn't narrow my recommendation down to one. So here's my good ol' fashioned pick: Cheaper by the Dozen by the Galbreaths. And my modern picks: The Bean Trees & Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver.

And [whispering...] I didn't really like Major Pettigrew. I wanted to. But I just didn't.

I just gave Courtney The Book Thief to borrow. You can borrow it when she is done. It is one of the best books I've read. And a book that is Sam and my favorite is A Town Like Alice. I think you and David would like it too. (You can borrow, I have it) It is about a couple who basically are pioneers and set up a town in Australia, and it's a really amazing story of how they met and what they overcame.

Oh - books - how to choose? My absolute all time favorite - Laddie by Gene Stratton Porter (if you haven't read it yet). I've also enjoyed Country of The Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett and L.M. Montgomery's autobiography, The Alpine Path - The Story of My Career. And happy happy 30th birthday! xo

"Redemption" by Mike Wilkerson. It's the backbone of the redemption group curriculum and I can't even begin to describe the soul surgery God works through it!

I've been reading The Noticer by Andy Andrews. Not quite finished with it, but it is a great book! I haven't read Bittersweet yet, but did read Cold Tangerines which was amazing. You sure are generous, dear girl!

Love this list! I'm definitely going to add some of these to mine. Enjoyed some of the parenting books mentioned in the comments, too. Current marriage read: How We Love by Milan and Kay Yerkovich. Current parenting read: Give Them grace by Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson.
